The Teacher Collaborative Podcast

For this project, I replaced the previous producer and got a chance to elevate the quality of the podcast. To do this, I took their theme song, which was just a guitar song, and added the organic sound of a school cafeteria to invoke the energy of a school and the energy of actual students. I also pushed myself further and created custom sound loops based on melodies from the theme song.  Each sound loop enhances various nugget moments from the episode. While I have always loved sound design, I am so happy to know that I can score podcasts with original music well.

Season 5 was so success that they brought me back for Season 6.

About the show:

The Teacher Collaborative offers programs that are designed to bring educators together, elevate teachers as experts, support collaboration across schools, and celebrate and share practices that benefit all students. Basically, it helps teachers maintain and fall back in love with teaching.

In season five, we're going to focus on change-makers. We hear from teachers who have led change and hear in their own voices, how they navigated the ups and downs of doing things differently.

My responsibilities: working with clients to ensure project goals are satisfied, creating show format, sound design, creating templates, remotely recording interviews, troubleshooting any issues hosts and guests might have with the internet and sound quality, editing episodes, as well as uploading and scheduling episodes.

Podcast Pre-Production, Research

CALLING BS - MOST UP TO DATE.jpg

Calling Bullshit

Calling Bullshit was an opportunity to work on a large production team with dedicated areas of focus. As part of pre-production,  I focused on helping to complete research and guest booking for season 1. When I reviewed what we had done in season 1, I notice that most of the companies were founded by and/or currently run by American white cis-men, so for season 2, I worked to find more international, POC, and women+ led companies. The resulting work was a strong first season and a solid plan for a more diverse and inclusive season 2.

About the show:

The first podcast about purpose-washing...the gap between what companies say they stand for and what they actually do — and what they would need to change to practice what they preach. Hosted by Ty Montague, co-founder, Chairman, and Chief Purpose Officer of co: collective, a creative and strategic transformation partner for purpose-led businesses.

In each episode, Montague calls on journalists, authors, leaders, and CEOs of some of the brands featured in the season to explore a company’s path to success and meaningful change. He also facilitates a panel discussion with additional experts to debate the company or organization at hand and provide concrete remedies and solutions for cleaning some of the BS up and to help drive action and transformation.

My responsibilities: researching each topic and guests, pitching new episodes, creating background outlines, timelines, and interview questions, constructing the story for each episode,  and editing scripts.

tooltip time Podcast

I learn a lot through all my projects, but this one really helped me improve my podcasting chops. The owner of tooltip.com hired me to explore and evaluate different podcast creation tools. Together with my co-podcast producer and host, I collaborated on a 12 episode series that explored podcast editing, remote recording, and transcription tools.

About the show:

Welcome to tooltip time, the podcast that will help you find the right tools 10x faster.

Each week, your co-hosts Mijon Zulu and Jude Brewer will dive into different tools to let you know what works, what doesn't work, and who this tool might best suit. tooltip time is brought to you by tooltip.com where you can decide whether to build or buy the best tools for online business. Recent reports include virtual office space for small groups, online grammar tools for business, and AI-writing assistants for fiction.

My responsibilities: working with client to ensure project goals are satisfied, hosting, creating show format, sound design, creating templates (show scripts and show notes), remotely recording interviews, troubleshooting any issues hosts might have with the internet and sound quality, editing episodes, as well as uploading and scheduling episodes.

Whispering Huntys Podcast

I love podcasts. They have been my guilty pleasure since college where I first listened to the Savage Lovecast. I previously created a short-lived 90s nostalgia podcast centered around the OG Charmed called the Podcast of Shadows. In reality, I dreamed of having a podcast about RuPaul's Drag Race as a love letter to Race Chaser and Bitch Sesh.

Finally, to add some fun to my Covid-19 nightmare, I decided that doing the darn thing would be better than dreaming. Whispering Huntys is a global queer culture and Drag Race podcast. We are passionate about queer spaces, drag, the effects of COVID-19 on queer nightlife, and the experience of queer people around the world. What began as a podcast about a queer TV show has become a community of like-minded people finding fellowship. Take a listen!

About the show:

Mijon Zulu and Nick Probst are funny. They're gay. They're friends. Sadly, Mijon is obsessed with Drag Race and Nick has never watched - until now! We know. Shocking. Join them as they deep dive into global queer culture, Drag Race, interview other Whispering Huntys, and celebrate one of the best TV shows of the modern era.

My responsibilities: hosting, booking guests, sound design, remotely recording interviews,  troubleshooting any issues guests or hosts might have with the internet and sound quality, editing episodes and ad spots, uploading and scheduling episodes, handling all sponsored inquiries, and creating social media for promotion.

Social Media Planning, Instagram and Youtube Content

The Pleasure Is All Yours

Learning how to tackle social media is hard and even more so when you are busy with clients all day. To make things easier, I worked with Dr Rachel Allyn on a 14-week brand refresh that focused on creating a manageable content calendar so that she could ease into producing social media herself and promote her new book. In addition, I produced her IG Live series and created custom content for social media.  Now that the IG Live series is up and running, I have been staying on to convert the footage and repurpose it as content for her Youtube channel.

My responsibilities: producer, video editing, sound design, managing content calendar, custom post design

Copywriting

Brand By Milestone

Working at a content and communications consultancy like Brand By Milestone has been an education in project management and writing for any industry that is thrown at me. As the copywriter, I have studied and adjusted my writing in everything from nonprofits, start-ups, hospitality, fine art, design, and the list continues. Below, you'll find one of my favorite projects.

Since 2020, Brand By Milestone has been creating content and shifting the positioning of nonprofit Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. As the copywriter, my role has been to sift through interviews, articles, and archival content, in order to create short videos with clear concise messages.

This work culminated in the One Bridge Year-End campaign. A concept that we came up with that flipped the mission of the nonprofit on its head to create a fresh perspective on the impact of the work that they do. Typically, the nonprofit focused on discussing rural-isolation caused poverty on the macro-level (ex. 1 in 7 people around the world suffer from rural isolation). For the Year-End Campaign, we shifted the language to focus on the impact of just one bridge! This was accompanied by the words and stories of the people that work at B2P and also the donors who choose to give to the organization.

The campaign resulted in the highest growing GivingTuesday and the highest Colorado Gives donations. B2P reached their $100,000 goal early and extended as well as met a revised campaign goal of $150,000!

My responsibilities: copywriting, storytelling, story editing, audio editing

In addition, to working on the Year-End Campaign, we have been creating videos like this example that elevate the brand,  capture the message of B2P, emphasize the people impacted, and ground this in real numbers to show the data-driven focus of the nonprofit.

My responsibilities: copywriting, story editing, audio editing

Writing Samples

Fiction and Creative Nonfiction:  I studied creative nonfiction in college and have since been alternating between writing plays and creative non-fiction.

Recent Writing:  These are recent thought leadership pieces. One article was requested by Williams Colleges for Juneteenth. The other was requested by a tutoring company that wanted a good example of a personal statement.

Chowhound:  While working in the food and hospitality industry, I realized that I was getting extensive food and beverage training. My love of food and writing came together when I joined Chowhound's freelance team. Chowhound is an online resource for food enthusiasts and includes expert editorial and an active community forum of knowledgeable contributors.
